Question: Buying used xbox 360 elite.. how to test before buying?

Im buying a Used Xbox 360 Elite, which is modded for playing backups...Im had listed a want add on craigslist, Someone contacted me telling he has the exact thing im looking for in short. Its a good deal, but when we meet up to make the deal, How do i know (1) if it works; (2) is actually modded; (3) is not some crazy dude who wants to kill me lol.. ?

Meet somewhere where it can be tested. And don't go alone, plus let someone not going with you know where you are going to meet!
