Question: I have a broken xbox 360 arcade but the hard drive still works if i buy an xbox 360 elite console only?

Will it work if i do that and if so do i just put the hard drive in the same spot that it normally goes in the xbox 360 arcade system...? if i buy a xbox 360 elite console could i put the xbox 360 arcade hard drive into the elite will it work. Also if it will would i just put it into the normal slot where the hard drive goes in the arcade system.

A hard drive will keep all game/ saved data onto it no matter what XBOX 360 you're using, so yes it will work if you attach it to another XBOX.

Why would you buy the Elite model, then remove the 120GB hard drive to replace it with a smaller hard drive?!?!?! When you buy the Elite, it should come with a cord that will allow you to download everything from your smaller hard drive onto the new hard drive of the Elite model. That way, you retain all your saved games and points, but get a larger hard drive... But to answer your question, yes, that works. I did the opposite - when my elite xbox died, I just went and bought a cheap arcade system and put my hard drive in it and BANG - new xbox!
